Merry Christmas

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  Enjoy some down time.

I hope to figure out all this stupid technology to be able to do what I want to do.

Time to change out that new computer with a screen that was supposed to be there, but isn't touch screen.  Time to figure out how to fix the problem with me not being the owner for my blog.
too many issues to be happy with this mess.

Stash Report

So, I made some teacher gifts this week and used a whole 2 yards.  LOL  That's better than I've been doing, so I feel good about it.  I only have a little over 2 yards to use to make my 100 yards net used this year.  With me not sewing for 2 months, that isn't so bad.

Used this Week: 2.09 yards

Used year to Date: 148.67 yards

Added this Week: 0.00 yards

Added Year to Date: 47.00 yards

Monthly usage: 6.17 yards

Net Used for 2013: 97.92 yards

Teacher gifts

My standby gift -- coasters.  I've been making these for many years!  I love how they go together, are quick and functional.
I tried a quick place mat.  I would have done more detail on it, but I just ran out of time.  They are functional and match
the bowl potholders were done before.  The photos are different because I had to use my phone.  The phone made them yellow instead of the truer color in the bowl place mats.
so, I found some clear bowls, plates and glass that I am including in the package.  They have a teacher lunch emergency kit.
I can now say I've used some fabric this week.  I really have less than 2 yards to use to net 100 yards used this year.  Not bad considering I've not really sewn much in the last 6 months.

Busy Busy

What a week.  DD had a bandcoming dance because of missing homecoming.  There were almost 150 kids there and we had a blast.  We cut out snowflakes and then hung them from helium balloons and made the band hall into a wonderland.  It was so much fun.

Saturday was spent recovering and decorating for the Christmas party today for girl scouts.  That was a fun day too.  Tiring, but fun.

I did wrap some presents, and need to finish the place mats and coasters to be done with the 5 other gifts.  Other than that, I'm not making anything else this season.  I might do some fun things, but those were my only needed gifts.

Stash report is no change this week.  Nothing finished.

Design Wall

Well, let's see....nothing is on the wall because I just took it all down to go quilting yesterday.  So, we will use this photo for the design floor.  LOL
I have 8 more of the QST to finish, then I have the flying gees and black strips to finish the center.
Next will be the border and I'm not sure about that one yet.
We will see what happens.

Update on Get It Done List

STARTED 1.  Teacher gifts -- 11 in total  (3 completed, 8 started)
DONE 2.  Sew the bonus HST quilt on my curtain together
3.  Finish QST for the batik quilt on my design wall ( 8 to go)
4.  Finish testing quilt (I can't show this photo)

Small quilt group day

Today was quilting with my small group.  This was on my design wall for ages, and I am still working on the QST.  I need 8 more to start putting this together.  Today we talked about the border and I think I will finish off the square so they look finished.  That will add a special touch.  I don't know yet what I'm going to do with the rest, but it is closer to being done.
I started putting this bonus HST block together.  This is what was on my design curtains.  I have other sizes of HST to put together into the blocks to finish this off.  It is a very long term project.
My next project was to make bowl microwave pot holders for gifts.  I needed 5, but the 6 were cut, so I have an extra for one of those quick gifts that come up over the holiday time.
A friend was making purses and this is her first attempt at putting one together.  I think she called this a sugar skull purse.  Not sure I understand, but she finished it today.
It was a good day.  I was worn out when I got home, but cooked dinner and then watched a couple of Christmas movies with DH.

Baby quilt done

This is a favorite quilt.  I love the way we used the panel.  Friends helped me figure out how to use it.  Love the mismatched piano key border.
It feels good to have finished the quilt, including the binding.  I had something to work on in the car today, and that was a good feeling.

Tomorrow I will quilt with friends.

Get It Done December

Judy L has us listing what we want to do for the month and then reporting on how we did.
I've not done this in awhile, but wanted to see if I can get my list going.
1.  Teacher gifts -- 11 in total
2.  Sew the bonus HST quilt on my curtain together

3.  Finish QST for the batik quilt on my design wall

4.  Finish testing quilt (I can't show this photo)

UFO updates

OK, so the last 6 months have been limited to what I've accomplished.  I was thinking about my UFOs for next year and decided to look at my progress.

If I were to start today for next year's UFOs, I would have 122 UFOs still on my listing.  As always, that could mean many more projects completed because each of my UFOs seem to create more than one quilt/item.  I have 3 that are ready to quilt.  2 of them are wanting hand quilting and I don't know how to do that.  I have a Craftsy class I could take and learn, but I find I learn better in person.  So, I have 125 UFOs on my main list for 2014.  I could get a couple done this month, but I'm not going to stress myself out for that one.

I completed 34 UFOs during 2013 (really only 6 months of 2013).  A number of those were orphan blocks that because pillows for teachers.  They are in a good place now and out of my house.  :)  I have some quilts sitting around waiting for those in need.  I don't normally have any laying around, so this is a first for me.

Before the end of the year I will put my UFO listing on my blog so I can see how it decreases during 2014.

Now, off to quilt the quilt I already quilted and unstitched.  Baptist Fans are not the pattern to unstitch!

Stash Report

Even though I've not used any fabrics since September, I'm going to start reporting again.  Maybe that will help me get back in the swing of things.  I've not touched that machine since September, no wonder I've been feeling out of sorts.
Mom is still in the hospital, but she seems to be doing much better.  Hopefully she will be able to be back to normal and can be home again.  Time will tell.  Every time she talks about Dad's death, she breaks down again.

T-shirt quilts

My friend, Tammy, came through again.  This is the double sided T-shirt quilt that I just quilted for her.  Tammy sent me photos of it so I could share it with y'all.

Slow

It is cold over here!!!  37 degrees is cold for Central Texas.  Been having lots of family things going on, mostly in the middle of the night.  :(  Not a fun time when Mom calls EMS because she is cold.  :(  She is beginning to grieve more, so that will mean we have to watch all that is going on.

I did quilt a quilt for Tammy, but didn't take a photo.  It was a double sided T-shirt quilt.  It is back in her hands, so that is good.

I used my gift card from winning a UFO Challenge to buy fabric for a quilt I'm testing (I can't show you the pattern or material).

I finally finished un-sewing the baby quilt and now I need to quilt it again.  I'll not take out Baptist Fan quilting again.  LOL

I have a robot quilt to quilt also.  Between loading, quilting and cutting, I hope to get some cleaning done.

November

November brings a new chapter in our lives.  A chapter without my Father with us.
Last year

In Albuquerque when Jon was little

Their 50th anniversary -- they made it to 63 years together.

My favorite of Little Miss Ashley flirting with Grandfather.

The holidays and life won't be the same, but there are sooooo many happy memories with my Dad, Ray Mitchell!

I am focusing on getting myself back into the studio, because it will make me feel better.  I know Mom will need some help, but I'm needing some peace and quiet in my studio creating and grieving.

Maybe Dad be enjoying all the music in heaven.  We love you and miss you.

No sewing

It has been a sad month.  Dad is not doing well at all.  He goes on Hospice tomorrow and Mom talked me into agreeing to bring him home for hospice.  I pray it is not too hard on her during that time.

Homecoming is tomorrow for DD's school.  Our first attempt at making a mum.  It is too big, but everyone tells me bigger is better.  So, there you go.  I had to trim it to make it acceptable and hope it doesn't get in the way too much.
Sorry about the side-wise photo.
So, that's the only creative thing I've done all month long.  I truly need to focus and do something to help me.

I quilted

I can't show you a photo, but I quilted a quilt!!!!
I'm excited to have done it again.  My eyes are tired, I'm still sleep deprived from our Kerrville Football Game last night.  Have scheduled a PT session for DD this mornign was crazy, but....that is life at times in our household.
It felt good to quilt again.  I have another baby quilt to quilt for my friend, and it is a darling pink and green quilt.  I think my favorite pink variegated thread is in order.  I can show a photo of that one when it is donel.
Now off to plan for our GS meeting tomorrow.  Not really plan, but get everything together.

Long time ago

Well, it appears that it has been almost a month since I've done anything.  That is highly unusual. :(  I have been stressed a depressed with my parents health and behaviors.  I need to determine how to make sure I am working to handle my own health and not allow things to become personal.  I am so tired from it all.  :(

Today I've wanted to sew, but DD has needed more encouragement than normal.  But, she is working in my studio, and maybe I can do both.  I have 3 quilts to quilt for others, and I really want that finished today.  I might need to say by Monday.

I have 2 quilts started that I need to determine how to finish.  It's 5 pm and I've not accomplished anything.

I also have a girl scout meeting to plan and I want to do some quilting tomorrow.

Hope to have something to show in the near future.

Design Wall Monday

Well, my design wall is EXACTLY like it was last week.  My Dad went into the hospital on Friday with chest pains.  He had a massive heart attack and we have been dealing with all the stuff before and after that.  He is still in the hospital and is no longer in pain, but things do not look very hopeful.  He could surprise us, if that is God's plan.
Keep us in your prayers and I hope to sew again soon.

It appears that nothing much has changed.  I have made a few more QST and another block for my design curtain quilt

Stash report

My stash report is nothing has changed.

Between school activities before school starts, parental activities because of health and birthday parties, I have not finished anything.

I've done a little sewing, but no completing

Design Wall Monday

I had a busy morning and now DD needs to go to the doctor again for her knee.  Wish I had some experience to know what to do.  Rest does not seem to matter one way or another.
Anyway, I didn't get much done this weekend, but here is my design wall with the quilt coming together.  I do like the way the blocks are lining up.
Here are the design curtains.  I have 4 more blocks to make for the center of this quilt.  Then to making more blocks with smaller hst.  I have lots of bonus triangles I'm using.

My to Do List

If I don't get stuck elsewhere, I think I could get much of this list done.  That's a big IF, so this might go into next week.  LOL

1.  Sew numbers in Corbett Band Pants
2.  Mend some Clemens Band Pants
3.  Make Prototype Music holder
4.  Continue with testing blocks
5.  Make 2 Hayes Corner blocks
6.  Make QST for batik quilt
7.  Keep going through files on my computer to delete duplicates and not needed anymore
8.  Continue cutting baby clothing, and maybe even sew some together?

My son says I'm reaching the capacity on this hard drive.  The computer is only about 11 years old, so that is not surprising.  LOL

I really want to get some of these done so I can focus on the baby clothing quilt and get it done.  My hands hurt from cutting all those little pieces and I tend to only do a little at a time.

Finish

This is my BOW quilt where all the blocks have flower names.  I just loved the blocks, and the setting The Sampler Society came up with.  This is a large quilt.  My finger is sore from binding it.  We took a ride yesterday and I was able to finish the binding.  Not one of my UFOs, but I love it.  It came completely from stash!

Slow day

Started my off with parent duty, then came the prep day for school. I have a high schooler -- first class per-AP Physics.  Yikes!!!  Won't be able to help there.
I did start loading this quilt.  Need to reroll it, but now I need to figure out what color of thread to use.  It keeps changing its mind with me.
so, you've seen the design curtain quilt changing over time.  It can be seen in the photo above too, but the sun in shining through the curtains and washing it out.  Anyway, I was using bonus hst to work through to see what could be made.  I made an ocean waves with the batch and still had leftovers, so I started this one and this is what is left.  I have one block hung to copy off of for placement.  I have one I've just finished sewing the rows together as a leader/ender project, I have one laid out to be sewn when I can and then this is enough for another block.  To even out my rows, I need 4 more blocks.  I have them.  This might not be as big as I might wish, but it is a good use of 2.5" hst and they will soon be GONE!!  Amazing, I never thought that would happen.  I do have more that will end up being pressed and trimmed, but they are not done at this point.
I have been thinking about how I could actually make this larger.  I want to try and see if I can use my 2" hst to make this quilt larger.  Think I can?  Should I use the same design and just make it larger?  Time will tell.

Slow progress

I have a couple of other things going on that I won't be able to show for awhile.  I so want to finish this one.  It is one of my older UFOs and I have struggled with how to set it.  Then, I found the magazine in with the blocks with this setting.  I couldn't find a dark batik, so I love using this kona.  I added a few more QST units to the design wall.  I'm needing to move some of the blocks around to make sure the 9-patches are in the best spot.
I did finish 4 blocks of the other quilt.

I'm working on loading the floral quilt.  The backing fabric I want to use seems like it might bleed, so I am going to wash it first.  If it is still bleeding, then I will have to find the stuff to set it better.

Sunday, August 11, 2013

working on an old UFO

this one was from at least 2006, so I know it needs to be finished.  I couldn't figure out what batik to use in the QST, and then I didn't have any dark batik in my stash.  So, I'm using Kona and a multicolored batik for the QST.
So, this is the start.  I need to make a few more of the QST and make sure that the dark blocks are outlined by the lighter fabric and the lighter blocks and close to the light fabric are outlined by the black.  I hope I have a good assortment to make that happen.

what a week

Not much going on here.  But, it is the middle of the day and I'm ready to do something!  I have some band pants to fix, but first I think I will make a Quarter Square Triangle for the design wall quilt.  After that I hope to work on the quilt I'm testing.  I'll be able to show you the design wall stuff and then for the other we will have to wait a bit.
Wish me luck.  I have not sewn in a long time now.

Stash Report

Design Wall Monday

I sewed the baby quilt together from last week.  Didn't press it, so don't have a photo of it yet.
Need to quilt the baby quilt on the machine and then the other 2 I have ready to quilt, but need backings for them first.
This is the UFO that needs done for Liz' UFO Challenge.  These are 9 inch 9-patches that I worked on during a retreat in 2006.  So, it is an old UFO.  I randomly put the blocks up on the wall.  Looks like I need a bigger wall.  LOL  I see a few spots that I need to rearrange, but from here I want to make hourglass blocks to frame the 9-patches.  So, that is one of my August projects.
I have a baby quilt on to quilt that I won't be able to show you.
I have a quilt to piece that I won't be able to show you.
I have a couple of other projects that need attention after those other things are done.
All along I have the band boosters to work with.  LOL  I think August is going to be gone before I know it.
Throw in 3 birthdays in the next month and life is like normal.

Stash Report

It's been a busy week for medical appointments for my family, so there was little time to be in the studio.  Stress should put me in here more, but I've been un-stitching a quilt and not stitching much else.  Oh well, I did make a water bottle holder and that is something.  :)

Design Wall Monday

This is what is on my main design wall.  I need to adjust some of the colors, but will sew together for a quick quilt

On my design curtains is this block.  I love this design.  Need to work on making more as my leader ender project.  I have one partly done and one made.  Now to just decide how big to make it.

Stash Report

I didn't quilt much during the week, but I did get 2 smaller sized wall hanging done yesterday.  I had to buy some fabric for a quilt I'm testing, so my numbers don't look that great.  If I hadn't added any, I would be well over my 100 yards used.  Guess I'ved used more, but stash has not changed that much. Oh well, I'm having fun and I have the room for it, so I'm OK

Successful day!

Liz's UFO #3 from my list was a palm tree wall hanging.  Leslee drew this out on paper for me and back when we did the B&B retreat (2006?) I started it.  I had everything in the bag but the green for the fronds.  LOL  How can you make a palm tree wall hanging without green?  Anyway, I used my scrap drawer to use for all the green, including the border and the binding.  Woo Hoo another UFO done.  I'm keeping this one.

The coffe cup UFO is done also.  I bound it tonight watching cover affairs with DH.  I hope to hang this one in my kitchen.

Saturday sewing

Well, not much happening here during the week, but today is laundry and sewing day.  Yeah!

This is my design wall project.  Don't stop one of these mid stream.  :(  It is not a fun thing.  I need to add the border on it so I can figure out where the palm fronds need to go -- inside and under the frame or on top of the frame.  When I started this, I didn't get the water and sand very even with the sky.  Did I have a plan for that????  I have no idea.  I'm in the process of sewing the inside palms and will work on the outside ones in a bit.  I do think I know what my border is going to be, but not the binding.
It feels good to be sewing again.

Design wall Monday

My design wall is not changing lots.  Seems I quilted too much this week and not enough of my own stuff.  Then the unstitching of the long arm stitches is a mess.  Yuck!
I have the cups decided by DD and they are appliqued down.  Not sure if I like not having all the windows with cups but both DD and DH like it this way.  I can live with it.
Now to get the backing done and on the long arm for simple quilting.  The fabric is so busy that I doubt the quitling will be seen

Tired

Well, seems that un-stitching takes longer than stitching.  LOL  I have not even made it 1/3 of the way through this baby quilt.  I'll work on it while sitting downstairs with DH, and then take a break to come on upstairs.

I would like to quilt this old log cabin, but have no idea what to do with it.  Any suggestions?  I didn't like the way my Baptist Fans templates worked.

Then, I'm working on this kit that didn't have the right fabrics with it.  I tried a print, but it does not work well with the black or the white.  So, that might just have to go in the back.  I like the shape of the round cup.  The square one is just not great.  Might make all round ones, but I need to find the right fabrics and figure out how many are going on this wall hanging.

A friend came by this morning with a van load of fabrics.  Some were really old.  There were some vintage fabrics and lots of double knit.  I helped her sort through and there are some almost done, so I'll put them together for a charity.  I decided to ask Sylvia of  Angel Cover Ministries if they could use the extra fabric, even if it was not cotton.  She said yes, so I need to take that out to her soon.  There is lots of it
I think I'll keep the grandmother's flower garden pieces and see if I can put it together.

I've been working on the school stuff and hope to have it ready to go this week.

Stash Report

I wish I'd been able to quilt more for me.  I did long arm 2 quilts and then another that I need to unstitch, but no real finishes since last Sunday.

Used year to Date: 122.20 yards

Added this Week: 0.00 yards

yesterday a bust

Not a good quilting day.  I remember now that my learning curve for the baptist fan boards was high last time I used them.  It's been awhile, so I should have known better.  I was not in the mood to use them.  :(  Guess I need to just have muslin and play to make the process imprint in my brain.
anyway, I had this top that needed quilting
I loaded it and thought it would be just fine with the Baptist fan.  If it was a little off, it was a baby quilt and not be a problem.  Well, it was more than a little off in the dark area. :(  So, after quilting it and never getting the results I wanted, I am ripping the whole thing out.  :(  Not a job I like and Baptist Fan design is a hard one to unstitch.

Quilting for Tammy

Tammy sent me 3 quilts to quilt for her. The first one is long with T-shirts

Some of these shirts had sequins on them.  It was hard to get a photo of this one.

This quilt is the leftovers for the sister of the girl the quilt above was made for.  Fun little quilt and I practiced my swirls on it so it was heavily quilted.

The third quilt is an older quilt that I want to do the baptist fans on.  First I need to practice using my templates for it and then I will work on the older quilt.  I will use the baptist fans on the baby quilt.

Coffee Quilt

Well, I'm not sure this is what it was supposed to be, but with the pieces already cut and what was left....this is it.  I still need 2 of the outside borders to put on -- would have liked the sides on first, but the top and bottom borders were not long enough.
I have a few coffee cups ready to cut out, but I don't want them all the same, so I think I will design some cups like in the center panel.  Then I will need to place them to fuse on.
I think this will be a great addition to my kitchen.

Design Wall Monday

Liz has us being accountable for one UFO a month.  This is my coffee UFO wall hanging.  It is the one without good directions/enough fabric in a kit.  So, I am punting on it.  I don't really know how the coffee cups are supposed to go on the blocks, and I'm not sure I even want the fabrics they picked for the coffee cups.

Small Quilt Group Today

There were 5 of us at small group today.  I had a really good day.  Lana was doing mostly cutting and Judy was piecing her one block wonder quilt that is going to be amazing when she is done.

Ina was working on this wonderfully colored quilt.  It is really pink and lovely fabrics.  She got it all put together today.
This is the BOW with the wonderful setting from the Sampler Society.  I fixed the one corner block and got the outside border on it.  I'm excited to get these other quilts quilted so I can work on this one.

I had this mini twister heart done for a long time and it has been sitting around my room.  I decided to go ahead and make it into a pillow.  Now to ge the pillow form into the pillow casing.

This is another UFO that I had going on.  This panel was leftover from another baby quilt.  I was not sure how I wanted to make this and Judy helped me with deciding how big the pink areas would be.  The piano key border was started with larger white pieces.  The white overwhelmed the piece, so I cut it down and sewed in more of the bright scraps.  I think this is a fun little girl quilt.

Stash Report

I did finish 2 UFOs this week, they were small, but they are finished.  That is a good thing.  I really would like to get more done each week.  With the band program starting up, I'm not sure how that is going to happen.

Frustration

Have you ever bought a kit and waited to make it?

I wish I would never think that buying a kit is a good idea.  :(

I have a kit that I now know why it is another UFO.  I started it, got some of the pieces cut, and now I am trying to figure out where 2 pieces of fabric are.  AND I don't have a good photo of the finished piece.  I was going to do this one with applique, but I don't see the applique pattern.

So, do I abandon the pattern and make the piece truly my own?  I'm thinking this is a real pain in the you know where.

This is another UFO that is on the list that I gave Liz.  I wanted it to change out pieces in my kitchen.

Does anyone have a photo of the Blank Fabric Coffee Shop?  I think I can add the fabrics I need and all will be well, but I truly need to know what the finished item looks like.

Remind me to NOT buy any more kits and if I do, start them right away.  The shop that I got this from has since gone out of business.  :(

Red & black done

It is done.  I can't say I like it, but it is complete and another UFO finished.  This the Liz UFO #2 on my listing.

I like the back better, and I dn't like the solid backings.  LOL

Glad it is done.  I'm not sure which one of the UFOs I'll tackle, because Liz ended up picking the same number as last time.  Those auto number generators are interesting to say the least.
